Athol Park Guest House – Access Statement

Athol Park Guest House was built as a guest house in the early 1900s and does not have a lift. It is therefore not easy or suitable to adapt for guests with mobility problems. Regrettably due to its original architectural features, our premises are not suitable for wheelchair users, as there is no level access from the street, and the guest bedrooms are located on the 1st and 2nd floors.

There are 10 steps from Athol Park up to our front door, with no level access from the street. Guest Bedrooms are located on either the first floor (approx. 20 steps from the front door) or the second floor (a further 20 steps). We have no ground floor bedrooms.

Our fire alarm system includes flashing red beacons in the guest bedrooms, to assist guests with hearing impairments recognising that the fire system has activated. This is in addition to the sounders in each guest room.

Our guest house does not have a car park, but there is plenty of free on-street parking nearby. This unfortunately means that we have no reserved parking spaces for disabled guests. We can provide full travel details to our guest house on request.

Bus Services run regularly to the village from Douglas and the airport (numbers 1, 2, 11 & 12). The nearest bus stop is outside the Steam Railway Station; about 150m walk from our guest house.

After agreeing arrival times, we will meet you at the guest house and show you the facilities. If you have any questions, please ask us. A Guest Information folder is provided in all bedrooms, giving details of the guest house, and details of some of the local attractions which we hope you find of interest.

We do not accept pets, however if you wish to bring your assistance dog, please contact us to discuss your requirements before arrival.

We do not have a public telephone available, but we do offer free Wi-Fi for guests, which is available throughout the guest house.

Our guest house has oil central heating via radiators. The radiators in the guest bedrooms have thermostatic valves which can be set between 10ºC and 23ºC. We can set the system to achieve specified temperatures at certain times, and if you would like to take advantage of this facility, please let us know.

Televisions are provided in all guest bedrooms, with the standard “Freeview” service available from the Isle of Man TV transmitters (note that compared to the UK, fewer channels are available on the Isle of Man). Tea and coffee making facilities are also available in all rooms.

Our guest house is non-smoking, and the use of candles is not permitted.
